Nadine McDonough Obituary

Nadine McDonough PETERSBURG- Evelyn Nadine Spann McDonough passed away quietly at her daughter's home on Friday morning, March 1, 2013 at the age of 80. She was born Nov. 27, 1932 in Littlefield, Texas to Roy Spann and Eva Lee Renfro. She graduated from Littlefield High School in 1950 where she was Valedictorian. She attended one year at Texas Tech University. She worked at First National Bank in Littlefield until her marriage to Charles Clifton McDonough on June 24, 1960. They made their home north of Petersburg, Texas on the McDonough Family Farm. Nadine was a housewife and devoted her days to caring for and taking her special needs daughter to various schools, training and doctors. Then she worked for C.R. Anthony's, was a distributor for Discovery Toys and worked for Edward Jones Investments. She was Coordinator of the Plainview Stars Special Olympics Team which she passionately dedicated 23 years of service until her health made it physically impossible. She still wanted to be involved with the team up until her final night on earth. Her other passion was genealogy, which she spent what little free time she had researching her roots and had published several articles on her family. She was a faithful member of the Eastside Church of Christ of Petersburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her half-sisters, Luta Louise Spann Mancuso and Leona Elizabeth Spann. Survivors include her husband, Charles Clifton McDonough at home in Petersburg; two daughters, Beverly Gail McDonough and Evelyn Diane McDonough, both of Petersburg; two sons, Charles David McDonough of Petersburg and Richard Lynn McDonough of Lubbock; one sister, Billie Maxine Hutto of Littlefield; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincerest thanks and gratitude to Area Community Hospice, Calvert Home Health and Dr. Sergio Lara and his staff for their loving care to Nadine. Memorials can be made to the Plainview Stars Special Olympics or the charity of your choice. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013 at Main Street Church of Christ in Petersburg, Texas, under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview, Texas. Steve McLean of Canyon and Oscar Chavez of Plainview will be officiating. Interment will follow in Petersburg Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. today, March 3, 2013, at Lemons Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.lemonsfunerals.com.

Clifton and Beverly my family knows the sorrow you are going through right now and wish all of you the best in the coming weeks and months. Nadine was always just a great person to be around and I enjoyed working with her at EDJones. The worse thing I had to help do was let homeoffice know of her illness and request they remove her name from the On-call list, but rest assured that we all will remember her & rejoyce in knowing that she is at rest and free to talk all she wants. Lovingly,

Sue Herrington

Uncle Cliff and Cousins,
I wish I could be there today with you. Aunt Nadine has always held a very special place in my heart. She was so kind and generous to us when we would come to the farm when we were growing up. She always had a smile and positive attitude. I rejoice in knowing that a child of God, she today in in Paradise and no longer suffering. God Bless.

Bevie, Although I only met your momma a few times, I remember her smile and energy. The Special Olympics are special to me and to know someone who gave as much as she did to these individuals to make them feel loved and important is rare. My sincere heartfelt prayers are with you and your dad and siblings. We will catch up soon. Love you, my dear friend. Judy

I feel very sad not to have Nadine to visit with, but there is great joy knowing she will no longer suffer. She can talk and walk and visit with all those who went before her. I will miss her. No other aunt meant so much to me.
