Beverly Bock Obituary

Beverly Lou Bock of Glenmoore Beverly Lou Bock, 85, of Glenmoore, died Monday, March 4, 2013, at her home. She was the wife of Robert Voss Bock. In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Deborah Huck of Fairfield, Maine, Kimberly Beggs of West Caln; son, Christopher Bock, of Spring City, and adopted son, Sung Yun Bock living in Victoria, Australia; 13 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of Anna Eliza Thorpe and James Wilson Thorpe and had a half-brother, James Riley Thorpe. Beverly lived in Kenosha, Wisconsin for 26 years. She attended St. Matthews Episcopal Church where she assisted her mother and father at church breakfasts and dinners and was a member of the choir. She was a graduate of Bradford High School of Kenosha, Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a BS Degree in Child Psychology. After graduation she worked for two years at Benton House, a community house in South Chicago, as a nursery school teacher and social worker and one year at Lawrence Hall, a home for boys from broken homes, in North Chicago as a housemother for 1st and 2nd grade boys. In 1954 she married Robert Voss Bock in Kenosha, Wisconsin. For several years the family moved for work to California, Connecticut, and Arizona until they settled in Pennsylvania. While in Phoenix, she volunteered at a Head Start School for Native American and Mexican children. In 1977, she opened The Exton Secretary, in Exton, a secretarial service. She had the company for 15 years. At the same time she ran the office for the Exton Area Chamber of Commerce for 12 years. She was a member of The Rotary Club of Central Chester County for 21 years, serving in various positions. She created and participated in a reading program for a Coatesville Elementary School for 2nd and 3rd grade students, which several Rotary members participate in weekly. During yearly visits to Barbados, Robert and Beverly met with local Rotary Clubs and for 11 years became involved with The Shelter for Abused Women, meeting with officers and taking donations from their local Rotary Club. She was a member of the Glenmoore Garden Club, the Wallace Township Historical Commission, serving as chairman for 7 years. She organized Wallace Township Community Day and was chairman for 9 years. She had many interests; knitting, donating many pieces over the years to various charitable organizations, needlepoint, history, genealogy, gardening, reading and writing. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. on Friday, April 19 at Church of the Loving Shepherd, 1066 South New Street, West Chester, PA 19382. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name to Church of the Loving Shepherd, P.O. Box 101, Westtown, PA 19395.
