William J. Budney Jr.
West Caldwell, NJ - William J. Budney Jr., age 72 of West Caldwell, NJ passed away peacefully on March 7, 2013. William was born on March 10, 1940 to the late William J. Budney Sr. and Mary T. (Early) Budney, in Cold Spring, NY.
William graduated from Haldane High School in 1957, and from Clarkson University in 1961. He obtained his MBA in 1964 from Seton Hall University. William also attended management courses at both The University of Michigan and Harvard Business School.
After graduating from college, William went to work for the Public Service Electric and Gas Company in NJ. He worked his way through management positions, including Senior Vice President in 1995 with responsibilities involving Gas and Electric Distribution and Generation Scheduling. He served for ten years with the Engineering Power Research Institute in Palo Alto, California.
Work gave him the opportunity to travel. While working for PSE&G, he lived in Birmingham, England for about a year. He worked with many of the companies in the U.K., Norway and Scotland and took the opportunity to travel through Europe. He also had the opportunity to work in Japan.
He served as COO and then as Board Chairman of Rio Grande Energia in Brazil. While serving on several investment boards in Argentina, Peru, Chile and Venezuela, he enjoyed traveling throughout much of South America with his wife Edith. His last overseas assignment saw him travel to Oman in the Middle East for eight months. After retirement, he continued to travel, visiting Italy, China and returning to South America.
William had a spirit of volunteerism, serving on several hospital boards and helping at a Food Pantry in Montclair, NJ. His passions included sports, especially golf and tennis. He was involved for years with a wine making group in the Hudson Valley, and was also famous for his homemade lemoncello. William was a renaissance man; well traveled and intelligent, with a wicked sense of humor who could discuss various topics in depth.
His parents, his brother James and his son, William Bradford "Brad" Budney, predeceased him. He is survived by Edith (O'Connor) Budney, his wife of 48 years, and daughter, Sharon Budney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 12 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Loretto Church, 24 Fair St., Cold Spring, NY, 10516, followed by interment in the Cold Spring Cemetery. I met Bill and Edie in Brazil, where Bill made a tremendous positive impact as RGE chairman. Later on, we would meet in NY for beautiful lunches, even when things were getting rough for Bill. Sharon, I never met you but I believe you mirror them, so you must be very special. With tenderness,

Knowing Bill & Edie, one of my life's true pleasures. Their zest for living, his thoughtful countenance and guidance. Their standing with as my Godparents as I was brought into the Church in Brazil. The laughs, the dancing, the wine ...observing their chosen love for each. The immense pride which they had in their wonderful children.
My heart is with your Sharon and Edie.
