Leonard Addis Obituary

Leonard J. Addis, Jr. ATHENS-Leonard J. Addis, Jr. age 85 years, passed away on April 3, 2013, at his home. He was born on May 30, 1927 in Patchoque, L.I., N.Y. and was the son of the late Leonard J. and Mabel (Rockwell) Addis. Survivors include his wife Josephine, children Leonard J. Addis III and wife Jennifer of Salisbury, Md., David Addis and wife Patricia of Colorado Springs, Colo., Duane Addis and fiance' Susan Foote of Holbrook, N.Y., Brian Addis and companion Thomas Martin of Athens, N.Y., Karen Griffiths and husband Warren of Climax, N.Y. Also survived by his step son Philip and stepdaughters Irene, Margaret and Elva and grandchildren. Also survived by grandchildren Robert Addis, William Addis, Carolyn Swisher, James Addis, P.F.C. Jessie Henry of Fort Brag North Carolina, Danilla Addis, Krystal Addis and Dana Lampman Christopher Addis, Charles Griffiths, and Breonna Griffiths, also four great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his sister Shirley Klem and his first wife Elizabeth J. Addis. Leonard graduated from High School in Setauket, L.I., N.Y. He was drafted out of High School in The United States Navy, proudly serving during World War II for four years, he served on The New York State Police Department for 25 years, worked for the Auto-Theft Bureau,The Town Justice of Athens, N.Y. for 16 years, a member of The American Legion Post # 1087 and a charter member of The West Athens Fire Company since 1957. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at Richards Funeral Home, 28 North Vernon Street, Athens, on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will take place at 8 p.m. at the funeral home, with Sister Mary Mazza officiating, followed by full military honors by The United States Navy. Private cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Heart Association, The New York State Police, The American Legion Post # 1087 of Athens, The American Diabetes Association, The Leukemia Association, The West Athens Fire Department, or to a charity of your choice.
