Mrs. Benson was a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Society of Mayflower Descendants, the National Society Daughters of the American Colonists, the International Society of the Descendents of Charlemagne, and the Order of the Daughters of the King. She was a lifelong member of the Episcopalian Church.
Mrs. Benson was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Leslie Mayson and Rosalie Stroecker Mayson; brother, Leslie Lee Mayson; sisters, Eloise Ernandez and Lorayne Moore; and beloved husband of 55 years, Jimmie Benson. She is survived by her children, Walter L. Benson, Sr. (Mur), Susan B. Sollie (Donald) and Mickey Norman Benson; sister, Alice Schablinski; brother, Walter L. Mayson, Jr. (Shirley); grandchildren: Leah Benson Maddox, Walter L. Benson, Jr. (Erin), Troy Sollie, James L. Sollie (Elaine), Michael A. Sollie, Amanda Benson, Kevin Benson, Zachary Benson, and Jake Benson; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great, great-grandchildren; special niece, Pat Pritchard (Harold); devoted friend, Rev. Dot Douglas; many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held in Pine Crest Cemetery on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. procession to the cemetery.
