Clyde Gibson Obituary

Jan 5, 1922 ~ June 26, 2013
A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away on June 26, 2013 at home in Salt Lake City, UT.
Clyde was born on January 5, 1922 to George David Gibson and Nettie Richardson in Menan, Idaho. Clyde's father died when he was young leaving a family of eight children. The family moved a number of times eventually arriving in Salt Lake City, UT. Clyde attended South High School where he met his high school sweetheart and eventual eternal companion Vona Ve Marler "Bonnie". Clyde and Bonnie were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on October 27, 1943; they would have been celebrating their 70 year anniversary this October.
Clyde is a World War II veteran who served in the Navy as a PT boat mechanic in the Philippines. After an Honorable discharge he went to work with Chevron Oil Company and eventually owned and operated Chevron Service stations in various locations in Salt Lake City. In 1966 Clyde and Bonnie moved to Tooele, UT where he owned Gibson Tire Shop on North Main in Tooele, UT for 22 years. Clyde and Bonnie moved back to Salt Lake City in 2002.
Clyde and Bonnie had two children, his loving daughter Linda Jones, and his son Greg Gibson (deceased).
Clyde was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a number of positions, in High Priest Group Leadership, Sunday School, Young Men's, and always as a faithful Home Teacher. He was active in the community participating in the East Millcreek and Tooele Lions Club organizations.
Clyde loved to go golfing with his Tooele buddies, travel with Bonnie and their Tooele friends to the Temple regularly, and especially be with his family at all times and all places.
Clyde was a hard worker, but he was fun loving and a real jokester. He loved to tease everyone and make them laugh. He always had a funny little quip that would describe any situation. "Hey Dad, love ya more!"
Clyde is survived by his wife Vona Ve, his daughter Linda Jones (Lynn), and eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his son Greg Gibson and two grandsons, Brandon Gibson and Loron Jacob Jones, and six of his brothers and sisters.
A special thank you to Pine Mountain Health Care and Hospice, Haven Home Health Care and the staff and friends at the Coventry Assisted Living Center.
Services will be held Monday, July 1, 2013 at 12:00 noon at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary located at 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, UT. Friends may call starting at 10:30 a.m. for an hour prior to the services. Interment will be at Sunset Lawn Cemetery immediately following the funeral services.
