He graduated from York Catholic High School class of 1967. He enlisted in The U.S. Army National Guard in 1968 and was honorably discharged in 1974. After being discharged he worked for Custom Bilt Machinery as a machinist and later as a purchasing manager. Mike enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake Bay on his boat "ABRA CA DEBORAH". Prior to his boating ventures, he took several boating classes and seamanship courses with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. Beck VFW Post #5265 in Spring Grove, Shiloh Post #791, White Rose Lodge #0706 F&AM of PA and the United States Power Squadron-York and a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Smith and wife Emily of York New Salem; his sisters, Sr. Rita Charles IHM of Savannah, Ga., and Susanne M. Smith of Spring Grove. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Phyllis B. (Burns) Hoover; his brothers and sister-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his bothers, David F. Smith and baby Joseph Smith and his sister, Mary Ann Lutz. "Uncle Mike" had numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He considered each one his favorite. He especially enjoyed mentoring and teaching his young nephews. He will be sadly missed by them all. A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 201 S. Main St., Spring Grove, with Rev. Daniel V. Biles III officiating. Dear Deborah & my Dear Cousins,
I'm so sorry to hear of Mike. It's a shock to have heard. Mike always was a huge part of our Trulinos family, and will be so missed. I have the best memories of him growing up--always as just a good human, and someone I have always looked up to.
I'm so sorry that I can not be at the service--I now live in Montana, and on business assignment in Ceur d' Alene Idaho. But, please know how much I am supporting you and thinking of all of you.
Fondly,
Jim Drager
