Gary E. Cox, age 66 of Colonial Circle, Campbell, NY, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013 in the Buffalo VA, Buffalo, NY.
Born May 9, 1947 in Kansas City, MO, he was the son of the late Harlan E. and Lois M. (Loose) Cox, Sr. Gary married Linda M. Spencer on March 7, 2006 in Sun City Center, FL.
Gary served in the United States Army serving during Vietnam from 1966-1968 as a helicopter crew chief and door gunner. He later worked as a machinist for the Ingersoll Rand Company. He was a lifetime member of the Corning VFW and the Disabled American Veterans and member of the Campbell American Legion.
Gary was an avid NASCAR enthusiast. His greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren and great grandchildren – he will be missed by all who knew him.
Survived by his loving wife of 7 years, Linda M. Cox of Campbell, NY; step-mother, Martha Cox, Tipton, PA; stepchildren: Michael Sprow, Corning, NY, Robert Clark, Jr. of Rathbone, NY, Miles (Karen) Clark of NC, Tina (Darren) Peck of Addison, NY, Penny (Lyle) Markell of Addison, NY, Carol (Gary) Phelps of Wellsboro, PA, Ginny Pollard of Wellsboro, PA, Jim (Trish) Pollard of Charleston, AK, Wendy (Brian) Grist of Tioga, PA; 19 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great grandchild on the way; brothers: Tom (Linda) Cox, Bellwood, PA, Ray (Judy) Cox, Curwensville, PA, Stephen (Barbara) Cox, Bellwood, PA and Harlan (Carol) Cox, Jr. of Wilmington, NC and goddaughter, Ann O'dellick of Altoona, PA. In addition to his parents, Gary was predeceased by his first wife, Eva Cox.
Friends and family are invited to call on Saturday, July 20, 2013 from 2-4 PM at Carpenter-Flint Funeral Home, 10 Wall Street, Addison, NY. A funeral service will immediately follow at 4:00pm, Pastor Kenneth Smith officiating. Burial will take place in the family plot at Addison Rural Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be given in Gary's name to the: Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Rd., Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256, Vietnam Veterans Association, 8719 Colesville Rd., Suite 100, Silver Spring, MD 20910 or to the American Lung Association, Finger Lakes Region, Inc., 1595 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, NY 14620.
