MAURY GUIN Obituary

MAURY DAVID GUIN Retired plant manager and ex-
civic leader A Florida resident in retirement since 1987, Guin, age 83, passed away peacefully at his home as a result of cancer. He enjoyed a 34 year career in manufacturing management with the Procter and Gamble Co., serving as plant manager of the Jif peanut butter plants in Portsmouth, Virginia and Lexington, Kentucky. Guin played an instrumental leadership position in the development of an area wide United Way organization for central Kentucky (United Way of the Bluegrass), and later served as its president. He was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel. He was also active as a board member of the Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts, and YMCA. He had the privilege of serving on the board of Trustees of St. Joseph Hospital, and the Cardinal Hill Hospital for Crippled Children of Lexington, Kentucky, and also served as a board member and officer of the Lexington Rotary club. He served as an enlisted scientific and professional specialist in the U.S. Army Chemical Corp during the Korean conflict. He was born on September the 10th, 1929 in San Angelo, Texas, the son of David Thomas Guin of Abilene, Texas and Geneva Hearne of San Angelo, Texas. After attending Abilene High School, he graduated from University of Texas in 1952 cum laude with a combined business/engineering degree. In 1950 he married his beloved childhood sweetheart and best friend, Margaret Whatley. The couple cherished a marriage of 62 years. Guin was a life-long member of the Episcopal Church serving as an acolyte, a vestryman, and acolyte master. In retirement in Stuart, Florida he was a member of Saint Mary's parish. His interest included extensive fishing and cruising trips aboard his boat to the Florida Keys, Bahamas, and along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. In later years the Guins were world-wide travelers and the couple shared interest in fishing, bird watching, photography, and managing family investments. He is survived by his wife Margaret Whatley Guin of Stuart, Florida, son Stephen W. Guin of New Orleans, Louisiana, son David Thomas Guin of Fairfax Station, Virginia, daughter Elizabeth Anne Guin of Orlando, Florida and five grandchildren.
