Dear Pemberton Family,
So sorry to hear of the passing of your husband and father. My daddy, Tommie Stretch, thought so much of "Smiley" and enjoyed working with him all those years ago. May the Lord allow your precious memories of his love and legacy heal your broken hearts.

Mrs. Peggy, Phil, David,
How sad it is to lose someone you love. It happens to us all sooner or later. We know it will happen. It doesn't make it easier. But those of us who have already had this sad experience know, although we can't see our loved one, they are always with us. They never leave us. Just as we know they loved us. And they know we loved them. As your pain subsides you will realize Smiley is still with you and always will be, God Bless Each of You. Dottie Owens Graham

Peggy, Phil, and David - my heart aches with the news of Smiley's passing. Never have I known a kinder, sweeter, more genteel individual as he. Dad loved working with Smiley at Cities Service all those years . . . I know Dad and Mom and Claudy are rejoicing with him in heaven. My prayers are that sweet memories of him will soon help to start healing your hearts. Love, Daph

Thoughts and prayers coming to the Family of Roger Pemberton. We love you all very much. Bill and Virginia Simms and family.

August 22, 2013

As I wrote to Phil when I heard the news, of all the men who raised us, I put Mr. Pemberton only behind my own father and Coach Franklin when I consider my influences. There were so many--Mr. Killgore, Coach Knotts, Dr. Byram, too many to name. We Haynesville boys were incredibly lucky to have grown up where and when we did. Phil and David definitely drew quite a hand in their father--and obviously Mrs. Pemberton in her husband. Please know that the Cochrans have the Pembertons in our best thoughts at this time. Smiley was truly one of a kind. We'll all miss him. Sincerely, Thomas (Boozer) Cochran

Mr. Smiley and Ms. Peggy personified what Hville United Methodist Church is all about. I remember them from my earliest days as a child always being there for anyone with a helping hand and a smile. Their children, Phil and David, personify the good Christian upbringing they received. I'll always remember Mr. Smileys greetings and jokes every Sunday. I know my dad, mother and brothers are laughing and rejoicing with him in Heaven. We will all be rejoined someday in that glorious place. I love you very much Ms. Peggy. I have many wonderful memories of you and smiling Mr. Smiley..

Dear Aunt Peggy, Phil, David and families, I am sad to hear of Uncle Smileys passing. I remember so fondly the many trips my family made to Haynesville and how your family and ours became intertwined. I think the last time I saw him and the rest of you was at my Mamaw's funeral. I know that it is a hard time, but I hope the memories of what a wonderful Husband and Father you had can provide some comfort. You are all in my heart and prayers. Angie Froscheiser nee Parr

Peggy, Phil, and David and families,
It has been many years since I have seen all of you but managed to keep up to date through Phil. Phil visited our family in Lafayette for years and kept in contact more with Bootsie and Louis (mom and dad).
Lydia and Marian send their wishes as well. Smiley and Peggy welcomed me into the Haynesville community back in the college days and I still have fond memories of all the wonderful friends and family.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I've always known Mr Pemberton as Smiley and as a young boy hunting at Friendship Hunting Club I grew to have a great deal of repect for Smiley and consider him a good friend. He and my grandfather, uncles, and stepfather were all good friends. Smiley will be greatly missed by all those that knew him. On behalf of the late W.J. Holloway, the late Herbert Holloway, Charles Holloway and James "Cooney" Langley; Ms Smiley you and your family have our deepest sympthy for you loose. It was a great joy to have grown up around Smiley. As I set here and write I can't but remember all the fun times we had at the deer camp.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Roger Neil Pemberton our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Roger. And to Roger it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during the Korean War while serving in the U.S. Army. Roger, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Roger's family and loved ones.
