James Svee
Aug.11,1937 - Aug.27,2013
Resident of Capitola
Jim passed away August 27, 2013 at his home in Capitola, California. He was 76 years old. His daughter, Sonja, was with him when he died.
Jim was born August 11, 1937 to Eunice and Bernard Svee, of Alexandria, Minnesota. He was the oldest of four children. Later, his family moved to St. Cloud, Minnesota, where he spent his boyhood and attended local schools.
Jim joined the U.S. Air Force in 1954 where he became a Loadmaster flying all over the world. He spent six years in the Air Force before returning to Minnesota where he attended vocational school and learned welding.
In 1963, he moved to California and became a member of the Ironworkers Union #377. He worked many welding jobs up and down the coast of California.
In 1977, Jim moved to Santa Cruz and later to Capitola, where he was known to his many friends as "Jimbo." He spent many happy hours at the Capitola Wharf kibitzing with his friends. Strangers whom he had just met became instant friends. Jim always had a ready story to entertain, amuse and sometimes even shock those who "gave a listen."
Jim will be greatly missed by one and all. He is survived by his daughter, Sonja, and his granddaughter, Amanda, both of Santa Cruz. He is also survived by his siblings: his brother Richard (Beth) of Santa Cruz and his brother Jerome (Michelle) of Duluth, Minnesota and his sister Marion (Richard) of Seminole, Florida. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins in Florida and Minnesota.
The family would especially like to thank Jim's devoted caregiver, Jean Dodge, and the staff of the Veterans Administration of Ft. Ord, who gave Jim special assistance.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, September 14th, 2013 at the VFW Hall, 2259 7th Ave., Santa Cruz beginning at 2:00 P.M.
Interment will be private.

Going way back, your reaching out while washing my car on Capitola Ave, then we would joke about keeping the numbers straight of how many times I'd walk the wharf in a day. I enjoyed mixin up the numbers with you. I will miss your good words and smiling face. I'll never forget you and will see you again to join you with the rest in that better place called Heaven RIP

Jim was one of the the coolest, funniest, nicest, most classic guy I've ever known! I met him over 25 years ago in the Capitola Village and we became instant buddies, he loved to talk about Capitola, his interesting life and old times, he remembered everything exactly as it happened! I've enjoyed many beers and great conversation with Jim especially in recent years at the Capitola Wharf where "Jimbo" held court with all his friends!! His stories of his life, some true, some maybe not so true:) were the best stories I've ever heard! I will miss Jim very much but I feel honored to have been able to say that I knew him and he was my friend:(:(:(

He was my friend, counselor, defender, entertainer and chauffeur. He walked to the beat of a different drummer and didn't give a damn who knew it! Rest well dear friend.

I only knew him in passing around the Village and at the Capitola Wharf. Always a smile and a friendly word. A kiss on the cheek. He will be missed.
