LEOMINSTER

Martin A. Spacciapoli, 92, of 24 Sacramento Drive, died Sunday, September 29, 2013 in Leominster Hospital, after a brief illness.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Theresa M. (Carbonneau) Spacciapoli; a daughter, Linda Nolan and her husband, Robert, of Lancaster; a grandson, Michael Nolan; a brother, Peter Spacciapoli and his wife, Frances, of Leominster; a sister, Viola Pallozzi and her husband, Harold, of Paterson, NJ; and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Domenic and Americo, and four sisters, Frances DiGisi, Corrine "Kate" Lanza, Clorinda "Clara" Bunnell, and Grace Sillanpoa, and some nieces and nephews, predeceased him.

Marty was born in Leominster on June 19, 1921, son of Pierto and Germania (Piccolomini) Spacciapoli, and was a life-long resident. He was a graduate of Leominster High School, and proudly served with the US Army during WWII.

For 45 years, he worked at Foster Grant Co., Leominster, and later, for five years at Euro America, before his retirement.

Marty was a member of Foster Grant's "25 Year Club," a lifetime member of the Leominster Lodge of Elks, where he served as Exalted Ruler and performed in the choral group. In addition, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus, Italian American Club, Foggia Hall, and the Leominster Senior Citizens Center.

He was a founding member of St. Anna's Parish, where he served as an usher for many years, and an Eagle Scout, having earned 27 merit badges, of which he was most proud. His many hobbies included playing poker, golf, bocce, and sitting with friends at the Searstown Mall. Marty enjoyed his summers in the waters off of Cape Cod, fishing, clamming, and boating with his friends and family. His most cherished moments were those spent with his grandson, Michael, whom he truly adored. His kind, loving and generous heart will be greatly missed.

Marty's funeral will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2013 from the McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton, with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anna's Parish, 199 Lancaster St., Leominster. Burial will be private. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the funeral home on Friday, October 4, 2013, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to "Why Me & Sherry's House," to help children and families with childhood cancer: Why Me, 1152 Pleasant St., Worcester, MA 01602.

Not sure what to say?

I remember Martin as a kind and gentle person. He was someone who would help a person whenever help was needed. My wife and I had rented the 2nd floor of his house in 1972 when I had been stationed at Fort Devon. I fondly remember Martin inviting me to one of his Elks club meetings. He will be missed by many!

I will never forget what a wonderful, loving Uncle you were and how much you cherished all of us. Sending my love and deepest sympathy to Aunt Terry, Linda, Rollo and Michael.

To my Dear Aunt Terry, cousins Linda,Rollo and Michael

Uncle Marty will always be the enduring example of what a "gentle"man should be. Quiet, yet loving, always strong for his wife, daughter, son-in-law, grandson, mother, brothers, sisters and us many nieces and nephews. The memory of his warm and happy smile and his easy going way comforts all of us who knew and loved him.The enjoyment of his life was through each of you. His lifes fulfillment was happiness for you and all...

Life is precious and Marty treasured his blessings. His life was fulfilled with deep pride and love for family, joy of friendships, and good will for others. Marty smiled brightly when sharing a joke, story, or piece of wisdom. We will miss our gentleman friend.
Godspeed Marty's gentle soul and may Terry, Linda, Michael and Rollo find comfort in his memories.
