William Henry Davidson Sr., 83, of Westminster, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at Gilchrist Hospice in Columbia.
Born Aug. 13, 1930, in Eccles, W. Va., he was the son of the late Horrace Liton Davidson and Nanny Nancy Jane Simpson Davidson. He was the husband of Mabel Caldwell Davidson, who died in 2001; Pauline Kreworuka Davidson Burton, who died in 2006; and Virginia Raymond Davidson Minton, who died in 2005.
He entered the Air Force in 1951 as a construction equipment operator in Korea, Japan and Formosa/Taiwan until his discharge in 1958. After the service, he worked at Dover Air Force Base, where his job was to refuel aircraft. He later worked as a bus driver for Dawson Bus Lines until he retired in 2006, when he moved to Maryland. While in Dover, Del., he was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed welding and camping.
Surviving are children William H. Davidson Jr. and wife Laurie, of Greer, S.C., and Bessie "Buffey" Mencner, of Hilliard, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Stephanie Pendyck, of Harrisburg, Pa.; a nephew, Douglas Martin and wife Sandy, of Manchester; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Diana Carrington; a stepson, Gerald Caldwell; and siblings Beulah Caldwell, and James and John Davidson.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester. Interment, with military honors, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Sharon Hills Cemetery in Dover.
