James Simpson Sr.EDGEMOOR - Mr. James "Jimmy" Brice Simpson Sr., 69, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C. A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at Harmony Baptist Church in Edgemoor, S.C., with the Revs. Woody Oliver, Bob Porterfield and Dac Croasmun officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Simpson was the son of the late William Brice Simpson and the late Margaret McGarity Simpson. He was a retiree of Hoechst-Celanese Corp with 18 years of service, a member of Harmony Baptist Church and U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Lee Simpson. Surviving are his wife, Elaine Black Simpson of the home; his son, James B. Simpson Jr (Michelle) of Knoxville, Tenn.; two daughters, Libby Marlowe (Jason) of Monroe, N.C., and Shannon Simpson of Edgemoor; and three grandchildren, Brice, Will and Madie. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1:30 p.m. in the Harmony Room at the church prior to the service and at other times family and friends are welcomed at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 107 West Park Blvd., Suite 150, Columbia, SC 29210. Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel is serving the Simpson family. I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Jimmy's passing, but I was so proud to know he went with peace and the dignity he so deserved. I thank you for allowing me into your life and letting me get to know you all and Jimmy. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
