Dr. Chusilp Charnsangavej passed away on Monday, the 25th of November 2013 at the age of 65. He was born in Thailand to Chow and Usa Charnsangavej on the 24th of September 1948. He attended medical school at Mahidol University in Thailand, and he and his wife Tanitra moved to the United States in 1973 to continue his medical training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. They settled in Houston in 1983, where he began his 30 year tenure at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, advancing to Professor in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology.
Dr. Charnsangavej, or Dr. Charn as many of his colleagues knew him, was a well-respected and accomplished physician, and he impacted many students, fellow radiologists, and patients during his tenure in the department. Although he held various leadership positions in the department over the years, his passion was education and clinical care, and his expertise was sought across multiple disciplines in fostering collaborative care in the treatment of cancer.
In addition to his many professional accomplishments, he was a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather, and his love and pride in his family was evident to all who knew him. He enjoyed travel and had a curiosity for life and how things worked in the world. His interests spanned from soccer and golf to classical music and opera. He is survived by his wife Tanitra, his five daughters and many grandchildren. Our "Gong Gong" was beloved and will be greatly missed.
Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Dr. Charnsangavej from two o'clock until five o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 30th of November, in the grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A fund will be established at MD Anderson in honor of Dr. Charnsangavej. In lieu of customary remembrances, please consider contributions in memory of Dr. Chusilp Charnsangavej to The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210.

To Mrs. Tanitra and Family:
Supha and I were profoudly sorry to hear of Dr. Chusilp Charnsangavej's passing. Dr. Chusilp, as many of us knew him, was a well-known radiologist among Thai physicians both in the U.S. and in Thailand. He had helped numerous Thai patients, including Thai physicians, some dignitaries and Thai Royal family members, receiving oncology diagnoses and treatments at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC), and had also assisted many Thai physicians from Thailand to come and train in the U.S. especially at MDACC during the past 30 years. Many of the trainees are now professors teaching at various medical schools in Thailand. He was a very compassionate man with a good heart. Dr. Chusilp will be long and well-remembered by his friends and peers in Houston, U.S. and abroad. We will miss him dearly.
Our heartfelt condolences to you and your family.
Supha and Prapand Apisarntharax, M.D., Houston, Texas

Tanitra and family,
Our hearts go out to you. Arthur was truly an extraordinary person, so modest about his intelligence and accomplishments, so kind and conscientious toward his patients, so warm, affectionate and wise with his family and friends - he is greatly loved and will be sorely missed. Sending our love and sympathy from England -

Dr Charn trained many of us as interventional radiologists and I hear his patient voice still many years later as I treat infants and children. He was a wonderful teacher and always a gentleman The world was a little better for him having walked with us

Arthur, as many of us knew him, was a true giant in his field! It seems like I went to him for a consultation on a difficult case forever. He was my 'go to' person when I had a question about an xray or scan. I'm amazed that he ever finished his assigned duties, because I know I wasn't the only one who held him in such high regard, and he must have been interrupted countless times every day. Nonetheless, he was never less than courteous and patient, and ALWAYS helpful. MDACC, his colleagues, and cancer patients everywhere have lost a great friend. My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.
