Helen T. Casey, 70, of Old Forge, died Thursday afternoon at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia after an illness. She and her beloved husband, Edward Casey, would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 29.
Born in the Green Ridge section of Scranton on Dec. 15, 1943, daughter of the late Joseph B. and Helen McCormick Langan, she was raised by her late aunt and uncle, Marion "Mimi" and William Bulgar of Scranton. Helen was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School before earning her bachelor's degree from Marywood College. Before retirement, she ran a children's daycare. Formerly very active with the Old Forge School District's PTA, she was also a Cub Scout den mother and a CCD teacher at St. Lawrence Parish in Old Forge. She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish.
A loving and caring woman, Helen's world revolved around her family. She adored her four children and her nine "heavenly-blessed" grandchildren, who meant everything to her. She will never be forgotten and will always be missed.
Also surviving are four children, Edward Casey and wife, Susanne, Laurel Springs, N.J.; Jack Casey and wife, Joann; Colleen Mancuso; and Kerrie Amann and husband, John, all of Old Forge; a brother, Robert Langan and wife, Ann, Old Bridge, N.J.; half-sisters, Rosie and Debbie Langan, and Peggie Franklin and husband, the Rev. Richard; a half-brother, John Langan; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Christopher, Meghan, Jonathan and Jessica Casey, Michael and Matthew Mancuso, and Jordan and Sean Ohler; many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, Jackie, Joseph, Paul, Thomas and Gerald Langan.
Her family would like to express its gratitude to Dr. Mark Lyons for his tremendous care throughout the years.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis St., Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Francis L. Pauselli, pastor.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity she strongly supported, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, P.O.
