SAM A. LASALLA, 94 ROCKFORD - Sam A. LaSalla, 94, Rockford, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014. He was born in Rockford on November 20, 1919, the son of Alex and Pietrina (Guarino) LaSalla. Sam was a proud U.S. Veteran serving his country in the Navy during WWII assigned to the U.S.S. Nashville mostly in the South Pacific. Upon his honorable discharge he was a barber for more than 31 years and worked as a custodian for Rockford Public Schools for 7 years. Sam married Angelica Martinez in Holy Family Catholic Church on September 2, 1994. He was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Moose Club, AMVETS, American Legion and Holy Family Catholic Church. Sam is survived by his brother, Jasper LaSalla; sister in law, Melida Leake, and numerous additional nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents; wife, Angelica; brothers, Nicholas and Joseph LaSalla; sisters, Mary Lucwinko, Lillian LaSalla and Josephine LaSalla. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014 in Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Rd. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with recitation of the Rosary at 8 p.m. Entombment in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at the Church from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Poor Clares Corpus Christi Monastery, 2111 S.
