METCALF, JAMES ROBERT, 84, born January 21, 1930, passed from this earth into eternal life on June 18, 2014.
Jim was a devote husband, father and grandfather. As a dedicated Christian, he served Okolona Presbyterian Church as an Elder and adult Sunday School teacher. During the Korean War conflict, he served four years in the U.S. Navy that included voyages to the Mediterranean and Caribbean Sea, Greenland and Cuba. He retired from E.I. DuPont after 35 years where he was an Engineering Department estimator.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother and father, Pearl and Martin Metcalf; his mother, and father-in-law, Evelyn and Arthur Priest; and two brothers, Charles and Billy Metcalf.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Eleanor "Onie"; children, Kriste (Mike Mach) and James P. "Jay" Metcalf (Trenda); and loving grandchildren, Courtney and Caitlyn Metcalf. He has two brothers, Joe Metcalf (Shirley) and Martin Metcalf and seven sisters, Mary Buechele (Bucky) Theresa Lampe (Bob), Connie Corners, Shirley Metcalf, Carol Hester (Gerald), Rita Vest (Larry) and Debby Mohr.
Jim's life centered around family and athletics. A star football and baseball player in high school, he also coached boy's youth Little League, Optimist football and basketball and girl's softball. He was an avid U of L Cardinal fan and frequently attended their football and basketball games both home and away.
His funeral service will be at Arch L. Heady Okolona Funeral Home, Monday, June 23, 2014, at 10 a.m. with interment following in Hebron Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Jim's name to Hosparus of Louisville, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society and Okolona Presbyterian Church.

Onie, Kriste and Jay. I am so sorry to hear about Jimmy's passing. I just found out or I would have paid my condolences in person. I will keep you in my prayers.

Onie, my prayers are with you and your family. I worked for Jim, bowled on a team with him and considered him a friend. He taught me a lot about UofL sports. Always enjoyed seeing you and him at the basketball games.
