JOHN HARVEY John F. Harvey "Jack," 91, died June 21, 2014. He was born Aug. 1, 1922, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Walter and Exie Lindley Harvey. He was a Las Vegas resident for 35 years. He graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor of science degree (cum laude) and a master of business administration degree from the Harvard Business School. His former business affiliations include vice president and corporate secretary of Time, Inc. (Time Warner) New York, chief financial officer of Schering-Plough Corp., chief financial officer of Times-Mirror Corp., (Los Angeles), chief financial officer and director of Summa Corp. (Howard Hughes Corp.) Las Vegas, and lecturer at UNLV Business School. He was an active director of the Harvard Club of New York, and numerous Catholic Bishops' Councils in New York. He was a director of the Del Webb Corp., founding director of Southwest USA Bank (Las Vegas), director of Casino Data Systems, board member of the National Boys Club of America. A golfing enthusiast since age eight, he was the secretary of the International Golf Association that ran the World Cup Tournament of Golf. He was a spirited tennis and basketball player from a young age. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. Proud of his Missouri roots, he was president of the Missouri Society of New York, and founding director of the Missouri Society of Nevada. He was the founding president of the Harvard Club of Nevada. He was also a founding director of both the Nature Conservancy of Nevada and Friends of the Desert Wetlands (Desert Wetlands Conservancy), past chairman of KNPR Las Vegas and served on the Nevada Humanities Committee. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill and Don; and stepsister, Patricia Jeans. He is survived by his wife, of 55 years, Mary Jane "M.J.;" daughters, Mary Lindley and Laura Treat (Regina deLacy); son, Thomas Shaw (Anna); grandchildren, Matthew and William Harvey; brother, Jerry Harvey; and numerous nieces and nephews. Most of all, he was a delightful man. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a person of compassionate wisdom. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at the Shrine of the Most Holy Redeemer, 55 E. Reno Ave., east of Las Vegas Blvd. In honor of Jack's memory, donations may be made to the Nature Conservatory of Nevada, 1 E. First St., Suite 1007, Reno, NV 89501.

We were sad to hear of Jack's passing. He was a good friend and great neighbor. We always loved going to dinner with Jack & MJ and hearing his stories. He will be missed.
