ROBERT WELCH Robert "Bob" Welch, of North Las Vegas, passed away June 25, 2014. He was born in Waterloo, Iowa. He graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from Iowa State Teachers College and a master's degree from the University of Iowa. He was the director of art for the Muscatine Iowa Community Schools. He was a special education teacher at Crete and Thornton Township High Schools in Illinois. He taught adult education classes at the Chicago Teachers College. He spent most of his teaching career at Modesto, Calif., as a special education teacher of a variety of classes at Modesto High School, where he retired in 1992 and later moved to Las Vegas. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Tokyo, Japan in the Joint Chiefs' of Staff Office-Division 5. During his lifetime, he was awarded many honors, including Local Teacher of the Year, and was leader of various Masonic organizations in Iowa. In Modesto, he was named Special Education Teacher of the Year, by the Exceptional Children's Organization and a past president of Phi Delta Kappa. He was a president of the Las Vegas Rose Garden Club and the Leader of TOPS NV 00098, Las Vegas, as well as TOPS NV0007, Las Vegas for several years. He was the Nevada TOPS King in 2006. In 2010, he was preceded in death by his domestic partner, of 34 years, Emery Fernow; brother, Wayne Welch; and sister, Jackie Welch-Myers. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Waterloo.

We met Bob and Emery in 1994 and lived next door to them for nine years. They were great neighbors and we always looked out for each other. We will always remember the fabulous rose bushes and their love for them. Gone but certainly not forgotten and hopefully they are together again.
