Christopher Hull Obituary

Christopher Hull

CHRISTOPHER NEIL HULL, age 60, passed away July 9, 2014, in Springfield, Missouri, following a valiant and courageous fight against a prolonged illness.

Christopher was born July 11, 1953, in Ellinwood, Kansas, to the late Evelyn and Byron Hull. He spent a happy childhood in the towns of Chase, Ellsworth and Dodge City, Kansas, where he enjoyed Boy Scouts, camping trips and raising pigeons, and being part of basketball, baseball and football teams.

He graduated from Dodge City Senior High School in 1971. Chris then attended Dodge City Community College and Fort Hays State University (where he enjoyed taking part in the Midwest Model United Nations). After the death of his father in 1974, Chris returned home to help his mother raise his younger siblings. He then graduated cum laude, from Saint Mary of the Plains College in 1976, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.

After college Christopher began his career as a high school teacher and basketball coach in the Wichita, Kansas area. In 1981 he joined Farmers Insurance Group as a claims adjuster and went on to become Branch Claims Manager. In 1986 he met and married the love of his life, Cynthia Honeycutt and together they raised their six children in Springfield, Missouri. Christopher retired from Farmers Insurance Group in 2008, following a twenty-seven year career.

Christopher was a fun, loving, and compassionate husband and father. He valued justice and helped others obtain it when he could. He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed spending time with his wife and children during family trips to Colorado. In the words of Chief Seattle, Christopher leaves to his children this legacy: "Take only memories and leave nothing but footprints."

Christopher is survived by his wife, Cynthia Hull; daughters, Melinda Hull, Sara Brasfield and husband Tyler, Tara Heath-Moss and husband Oliver, Tessa Hull and Jessie Hull; son, Jace Hull; and grandson, Seth Brasfield. He is also survived by his sisters Mary Colette Hull, Jo Brisbane, Calista McBride and Julia McCurry; and brothers, Michael Hull, Andrew Hull, Brian Hull and Jeffrey Hull; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place Saturday, July 19 at 10:30 am, at the Hope and Anchor Church, 1700 N. Benton Avenue, Springfield, Missouri 65803.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations made to the education funds of his youngest children, Jessie and Jace Hull, at Bank of America, 710 West Sunshine Street, Springfield, MO 65807.

I remember teaching a history class at SMPHS and was interrupted by a knock on the door upon opening it there stood Chris who was a great person and dedicated football player; the conversation went like this: What do you want Chris? " Your suppose to beat me" What for? " Laughing at Sister ...... story about her dead dad ". What was so funny about Sister's dead dad? "Well Sister said that after he died he would help her carry in a heavy bucket of water each morning when she was a little girl". So Chris you laughed? " Not until Conrady said he didn't know buckets had been invented way back then!" I told Chris to consider himself "beaten" and to go back and apologize to Sister. As Chris walked away he said "Coach I won't smile the rest of the day". For Chris I knew that would be a hard day because he always had a smile on his face and in his heart.
With best thoughts I will celebrate Chris Hull's reunion Coach Albert "Gus" Saladin
