Lawrence Clement Baxley, 96, died peacefully on August 7, 2014 at his home in Clearwater, FL. He was the son of the late Bellinger Baxley and Bertha Bond Baxley.
Mr. Baxley proudly served in the Navy during WWII and retired as a police officer for the Gastonia Police Department where he worked for 26 years.
He is survived by his children, Chris Baxley of Hendersonville, NC, Teresa Bynum of Clearwater, FL, grandsons, Dennis Richardson of Clearwater and Samuel Richardson, Jr., of Hendersonville.
Great-granddaughters, Paige, Beth, Bailey and Shelby Richardson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Baxley and son Lawrence Baxley, Jr.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Gaston Memorial Park with Pastor Rex Atkins officiating.

Dear Family of Lawrence Baxley,
I was very sorry to learn of Mr. Baxley's death. He was an excellent man and an outstanding police officer who I remember well despite not having seen him for decades. I always called him "Mr. Baxley" out of respect.
