John Jay Clark, 87, of Cathedral City passed away July 28, 2014. He was born Aug. 25, 1926, in Spokane, Washington, to John Jay Clark Sr. and Alta May (Torrance) Clark. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he attended college and became a teacher. He then entered the insurance industry, in which he worked for over 30 years, retiring as an assistant vice president at the firm of Johnson and Higgins. On Nov. 24, 1954 he married Evelyn L. Mills. On March 26, 1977, he married Katherine Sherman, who passed away in 2009. John was active in the Boy Scouts, Elks Club, and American Legion. An avid hiker, he also served for many years as a volunteer guide at the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. John is survived by son David Clark of Portland, Oregon; stepdaughter Karen Wilcox of Fairfield, California; stepson Brian Lindsay of Hayward, California; and three granddaughters. Services were held Aug. 1, 2014, at Forest Lawn in Cathedral City.
