Herbert C. Burton, age 95, passed away on Sept. 14, 2014, in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. Herbert was born on Dec. 19, 1918, in Fowler, Ind. to the late Oscar and Lucy Burton. He graduated from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind. with a degree in Education. He married Libbyann Wilson in 1942, and the couple had five children together. They were married for 72 years. Herbert served as an officer and pilot in the Army Air Corps in World War II and Vietnam. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star and the Soldiers Medal among many decorations. His family and friends will always remember him as an active reader, sports fan, great story teller and generous person.
He is survived by his wife, Libbyann W. Burton; his sons, Paul C. Burton, Robin A. Burton and John W. Burton; his daughters, Lu Ellen Szczepanski and Carol Ann Burton; six granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Emerald Coast Funeral Home.
