Paul Gannon Godfrey
70, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on September 22, 2014. Born February 14, 1944 in Evanston, IL, Paul was the only child of Mary & Paul Godfrey. He graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in Physics in 1966, and received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1970. Following graduation, he interned at Rush University Medical Center where he met his loving wife of 45 years, Maureen Ann
Godfrey. In 1975, after completing his surgical residency at Rush he moved his wife & daughter to San Bernardino to begin his surgical practice with the San Bernardino Medical Group.
During his 37 year tenure, Paul was a staff member of the St. Bernadine Medical Center where he was also Chief of the Medical Staff in 1993. Among his contributions to the community were his 20 years of service on the volunteer Board of Directors of the Blood Bank of San Bernardino & Riverside counties. Paul was also a member of the American Medical Association, California Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, San Bernardino County Medical Society, and Tri-County Surgical Society. His private practice continued from 1975 until he retired in 2014.
He is survived by his wife Maureen, daughter Kelly (Joseph Shusko) and two grandchildren, Aidan Joseph & Reagan Colleen of Rochester, NY and dear cousin Elaine Jacques of Middleton, MA.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7pm Wednesday, Oct 1, 2014 at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E. Highland Ave. San Bernardino, CA. with a Rosary at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Rosary Cathedral, 2525 N. Arrowhead Ave., San Bernardino on Thursday, October 2 at 11:00am. Reception immediately following at Arrowhead Country Club. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Peoria, IL.

So sorry for you Maureen and Kelly. Paul was a great husband and father. We will miss him dearly. I had many great times at wedding and parties, and various celebrations. He was special. Love to all of your family. I will be praying for him and all of you tomorrow.

At one point Dr. Godfrey helped my mother get a muscle transplant in her foot from polio she suffered as a teen. She was always grateful. Peace to his family.
