Ki Choon Lee, 89, passed away peacefully, Saturday, September 27, 2014, in Carlsbad, CA. Ki Choon was born in May 8, 1925, in An Dong, Chula Buk Do, South Korea; to father, Lee Bong Nan; and mother, Chung Myo Sun. Ki Choon was the youngest with one older brother, Lee Ki Chong, born 1919, also deceased. Despite all the events occurring near the end of the Japanese occupation in Korea, in 1945, Ki Choon received a diploma from Seoul Pharmacy College. In 1948, Ki Choon came to the US with a full scholarship from Aurora University, in Aurora, Illinois. After two years, he then transferred to the University of Illinois School of Pharmacy, and graduated in 1952. Ki Choon worked for Mercy Hospital in Chicago for 30 years, before retiring in 1990. During that time, Ki Choon played an active role in the Chicago Korean Pharmacists Association, where he resided as president for over 10 years. In 2003, Ki Choon and his wife, moved to Carlsbad, California to be closer to his son and family. K.C. also had an intellectual passion for reading and writing. He contributed two articles to the Chicago Tribune: Chicago’s Koreans (January 16, 1966), and A Korean Discovers America (Feb. 14, 1965). After his retirement, he also published a novel, The 31st Man (2007). K.C. was a loving father and grandfather, and is survived by his wife of 60 years, Chung Ai (Youn) Lee; his sons, Fred and Lenny; his daughter-in-law, Jennie; two grandchildren, Theo and Elle; his nephews, Lee Kang-Op, Lee Kang-Won, Lee Kang-In, Lee Kang-Man, and Lee Kang Sung; and niece Lee Kang Ai. Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at 1pm at El Camino Memorial, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd., San Diego, CA., 92121. (858)453-2121
