James Medlin Sept. 28, 1944 - Jan. 21, 2015 SOUTH BEND - James Randall Medlin, 70, residing in South Bend, passed away at 3:30 PM Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at his home. James was born on September 28, 1944, in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Joseph Ervin Medlin and Ruby Mai (Carpenter) Banks. James proudly and honorably served our country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War Conflict. While in the Navy, he served aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. Following his service in the Navy, he continued to serve our country in the United States Naval Reserves. James worked as a diesel mechanic and a truck driver for Whiteford Kenworth Truck Dealer on West Western Avenue in South Bend for many years. James is survived by his daughters, Mitzi Medlin of South Bend, Stephanie Schock of South Bend, Amy (Stephen) Dermody of Mishawaka; sons, James "Jim" Medlin, Jr. and Randy (Sarah) Medlin, both of South Bend; grandchildren, Mercedes, Nikos, Alex, Chris, Jade, Devin and Wesley. He is also survived by his former wife, Patricia Hanna of South Bend, and his girlfriend, Anna Newbill of South Bend. James was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ruby, and by his brother, Joseph Medlin. Memorial services for James will be at 3:00 PM Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Palmer Funeral Home River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615, where friends may gather with the family two hours prior to the services at the funeral home. Graveside services with Military Rites will take place at a National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Palmer Funeral Home to assist the family with final arrangements and expenses.
