A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 30, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Allen John Fontenot, 89, who died Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 1:05 a.m. in Crowley. Fr. Mark Miley, Associate Pastor of St. Michael the Archangel, will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. A rosary will be recited Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Mausoleum. Mr. Fontenot is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia Faulk Fontenot of Crowley; one daughter, Marla Fontenot and her husband Jon Collard of Los Angeles, CA; one stepson, William Triggs, Jr. and his wife Phyllis of Crowley; four grandchildren, Wyatt Harman, Avery Harman, Nicholas A. Triggs and Tonya Triggs Nicolosi; three great-grandchildren, Taran Triggs, Lilliana Nicolosi and Keira Nicolosi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paulin and Onezia Ashford Fontenot; two sisters, Amy Montelaro and Beulah Fontenot; two brothers, Johnnie Fontenot and Herman J. Fontenot. To know Allen was to be engulfed in kindness and to be entertained by his quick wit. Allen had a special gift of bringing laughter to the world. It gave him so much joy to make people laugh that he was the Cajun Joke Telling Champion in 2002. He was a WWII veteran and a true American hero. One of his favorite things to do was read and he spent time at the library almost every day. If you knew Allen, you knew patience, quiet strength and great love. Whenever you saw him and asked how he was doing he would reply "beautiful, doesn't it show". Some days he said he was just "good looking" but we all knew his spirit was always shining through, brilliant and wonderful. Nothing was more important to Allen than family and friends and he was loved dearly by all who knew him. Without his warm smile, jokes and stories all our lives will be a little less bright. As his childhood nickname, "Lamb," implied, we have lost a gentle soul and truly great man. We the family, would like to take this time and express our utmost sincere gratitude to each and every one of you for all your prayers, floral arrangements, food offerings and especially your presence with us during this most difficult time. In lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions can be made to your charity of choice. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.geesey-ferguson.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home, 301 North Avenue F, Crowley, LA 70526, 337-783-3313.
