Robert Warren Obituary

On Feb. 12, 2015, Dr. Robert Warren of Anchorage, Alaska, died while on vacation in Hawaii. He was 66. "Dr. Bob," as he was affectionately known, was a beloved member of the Alaska community. Robert was born in 1948, in San Pedro, Calif., to Robert and Marilyn Warren. Robert dreamed of becoming a dentist since he was a young man, which led him to graduate from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in 1973. After graduating, Robert joined the U.S. Army and served at Fort Bragg before moving to Alaska in 1974, when he began weaving himself into the fabric of the young state he loved. Robert served the people of Alaska for more than 30 years at Denali Dental Care. Dr. Bob was known widely for his expert dentistry skills, innovation and, most important to him, dedication to the well-being of his patients. He was the recipient of many honors and he served his profession in Alaska and in the western states with enthusiasm and tremendous devotion. Dr. Bob was especially proud of his long-tenure on the Alaska Dental Board and Western Regional Examining Board and the role he played in the improvement of dental services across the state. Robert valued being part of the Alaska community and contributed his time and energy to many civic organizations and charities. He was also an avid wine collector, scratch golfer, accomplished chef, passionate fly fisherman and frustrated Alaska gardener. Robert especially loved to travel with friends, taking every opportunity to experience Alaska and the rest of the world. And he was always the leader, organizer, planner and cheerleader for all occasions and events. Above all, Robert loved his family and friends with great passion and intensity. For Robert, family was not only those related through birth or marriage, but those many people he found along the way and made a part of his life. He loved easily and boundlessly. In this way, Dr. Bob created a large, extended family. That family is and will forever be grateful to have been a part of his adventure through this world, and to have been loved by him so dearly. Robert leaves behind his beloved and devoted life partner of 25 years, David Mayberry. He also leaves in Orange County, Calif., his brother, Richard Campbell (Barbara); nephew, Craig Campbell (Christy); and niece Lisa Campbell Price. He was particularly fond of his four grand-nieces and -nephews, Kamryn, Kyle, Blake and Paige. His visits with them were among his most precious memories. A Celebration of Life will be held in Robert's honor on May 7, 2015, at O'Malley's on the Green beginning at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Robert's name to Special Olympics, AWAIC or Boys and Girls Club of Alaska. Arrangements were with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.

Not sure what to say?

My husband and I were very good friends with "Bobby" in high school and kept in touch through his graduation from dental school. Even then, we were amazed that he knew he wanted to become a dentist. It is heartwarming to know that he was professionally successful, had a very full life, and was much loved. Our sympathy goes out to his life partner, family, and many friends.

I have just been informed that Bob passed away last year by Leon Caldwell. I can also say that he lived a few blocks from me and we shared a couple of classes in Junior High School. Fond memories from those days. May God Bless you and keep you wherever you are. I am on the other side of Alaska, in Droitwich, United Kingdom. Sylwester Maciej, Class of 66.

Robert, you will be truly missed. Being neighbors in SP and playing poker on Fridays was always fun, sorry we did not get to see each other again after your graduation. My condolences to your partner and family friends.

I'm sorry I didn't know this until now. Dr. Warren was my dentist while I lived in Alaska, and though I only saw him as a patient, I liked him. My condolences to his family and colleagues. He will be missed.

My sincere condolences to family and friends of Dr. Bob's, I had the pleasure of working for Dr. Bob in the mid 80's when I first moved to Anchorage, than again in the early 90's when I finished dental hygiene school. He was a exceptional practitioner, and encouraged others to be the same, he was a willing teacher and a joy to be around. Dr. Bob even taught me how to enjoy fine wine. Thank you Dr. Bob for the short time you were in my life, and for all of whom have been blessed by your friendship.

Bob was my family's dentist since 1982 but he was more than that. He was a very caring man who took a sincere interest in my kids and always inquired about how they were doing. He truly was a FAMILY dentist. No one will be able to replace him. He was a class act. I'll hoist a glass of wine in his honor!

Thank you again for everything you have done for me, you will be dearly missed.

Dr. Warren,
I'm selfishly sad that you have left us, but know that you are in a better place. When God calls its so difficult to trust that His timing is right, but through faith, I know that it was. You were such an amazing man. Having known you all my life and ended up working under you for your last jolt of your dental career, it was such a pleasure to get to know you on a personal level. You and I shared a special connection that was no mystery to anybody here at the office and I felt so proud every time you complemented me on how great of a worker and how competent I am. You truly are missed Dr. Warren. RIP.

With Love,

I so remember "Dr Bob" when he came to the, then, Fort Richardson Dental Clinic in the early 70's. Throughout the years, our lives intertwined as I often referred people to his private practice. It took a lot of strength of character and tenacity and compassion to open and sustain a dental office in Alaska for as long as he has done. I'm sad that you have left us but you were in a beautiful place obviously enjoying a hard earned vacation when God reached out his hand for you. May you rest in peace Dr Bob. And may all your loving family and friends be comforted by their own special memories of you.
