FELIX FERRAIOLO Obituary

FERRAIOLO, FELIX LOUIS Felix Louis Ferraiolo, 93, passed away on Thursday April 23, 2015 at Masonicare Health Center. He was the husband of Lee Richitelli Ferraiolo. Felix was born in New Haven on July 31, 1921. He was the youngest of four boys born to the late Felix and Mary Angela Ferraiolo of Conco di Marin, Italy. The family settled in New Haven where he grew up. He received an accounting degree from Stone Business College and worked for Leed Architectural Products for 39 years, ultimately as executive vice president. His life reflected a passion for volunteerism and charity, leading to the establishment of The Ferraiolo Memorial Heart Fund which supports heart research at Yale University. As a young man, Mr. Ferraiolo worked at Yale Medical School until he joined the military in 1942 and again upon returning in 1945, under the tutelage of Dr. William Glenn. This renowned surgeon and scientist was both mentor and close friend and they shared a passion for scientific research particularly regarding heart disease. Mr. Ferraiolo’s father and 2 of his brothers later died prematurely of heart disease and he made funding and supporting cardiac research a lifelong endeavor. Mr. Ferraiolo assisted Dr. Glenn in his research and they worked closely together for many years in this pursuit and in fact he remarked years later that he was proud to be a recipient of one of the very pacemakers which they had helped to develop and improve. The two of them remained close friends and continued their efforts to advance medical research through fund raising throughout their lives. Mr. Ferraiolo was a member of several social and charitable organizations, and particularly enjoyed his time in the Amity Club which he joined in 1978 and was president of from 1989-1990. The Amity Charitable Trust is a recipient of the Ferraiolo Memorial fund as well as Yale medical school. Mr. Ferraiolo and his wife Lee moved to Sarasota, FL upon retirement where they made many close friends and enjoyed over 20 happy years. He was an active member of the community there and involved in the political efforts to help maintain the integrity of the local beaches and environment. He founded the Connecticut club as well for Connecticut residents who relocated to the Sarasota area and was president until he resigned in 2003 but the club still thrives today with over 200 members. His lifelong selfless dedication to help others in need combined with his genuine affection for and interest in people, will forever inspire us and keep his memory alive. Mr. Ferraiolo is survived by his wife, Lee Ferraiolo, his children/spouses Ron Ferraiolo (Carol Anne Pepe), Rosemary and David Smith, Jennifer Long-Silverman and David Silverman, Lanna Berkun, Susan and James Pinsonneault, and son in law Michael Berkun. Grandfather of Frank and Carla Ferraiolo, Casey, Lucy and Jesse Smith, Ben and Molly Silverman, Vincent and Nic Berkun, Melayna and Joseph Matteo, and Oren Pinsonneault as well as 6 great grandchildren. Private funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the Ferraiolo Family Fund c/o Amity Charitable Trust Fund, PO box 4129, Yalesville, CT 06492 www.northhavenfuneral.com
