Evans, Howard V.
Howard V. Evans, age 92, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2015, with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of almost 68 years, Charlotte B. Evans, son, Tom Evans and wife, Wendy, daughter, Janice Mittelstaedt and husband, Guenther, and sister, Phyllis Calabresa of Berlin, Wisconsin. Howard has four grandchildren and 3 1/2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. Evans and Ethel Newbold Evans, sisters, Olwen Griffith and Mildred Padden.
His entire life was spent in the world of academia, but he never lost his love for his hometown of Redgranite, Wisconsin. He was a graduate of Redgranite High School and went on to earn his PhD in European History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. For 5 years he was Director of Curriculum for the United States Armed Forces Institute and later became Academic Dean of Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio. He retired from Central Michigan University after 20 years as Professor of European History. He was in the active Army Reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
He will be remembered for his keen intellect as well as his understated humor and generosity. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to Arbor Glen and Avow Hospice House in Naples, Florida.
There was a Celebration of Howard's Life on May 9, at Arbor Trace Tower Point from 3-5 p.m. There will also be a graveside service in Redgranite, Wisconsin, around the Labor Day weekend for family and friends.
