March 29, 1940 ~ May 16, 2015
Robert A Warner ("Bob ") passed away on Saturday May 16, 2015 early in the morning. After an unsuspected diagnosis of cancer 5 weeks ago, he left us quietly in his sleep after a short but valiant battle with his illness.
Robert was born March 29, 1940 in Spanish Fork, UT. He attended Spanish Fork High School, graduating in 1958. He then served an LDS mission in New Zealand. After returning from his mission he joined the Army National Guard and when that obligation was complete, he attended BYU, eventually graduating with an MS in Political Science and a teaching certificate. Meanwhile he met and married his sweetheart and best friend, Jane Holt. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 11, 1965. Shortly thereafter they embarked on their lifetime adventure, driving north to start their lives in Alaska. Both of them were elementary school teachers in Anchorage until they had their children and Jane then stayed home with them. Robert continued to teach school until he retired from that position in 1990. During his summers he was a landscaper until he found his true calling in commercial fishing which he was involved in for 20 years. He loved being in Alaska and fishing on the sea and he passed that love on to his children. He retired from this as well in 2004 but never lost his love of the sea and boats, and after passing the business on to his children, he remained very interested and involved in the business up to and including his last day on earth.
Robert had a very adventurous streak but loved people even more. He was known for being a prankster and he loved to tease people and make them laugh and smile. He had a great sense of humor as well as a sense of how to talk to all kinds of people. He touched so many lives just by being genuinely interested in their lives and feelings. He was known for his hugs and his huge smile that lit up any room he was in. He met people from all walks of life through his buying and selling of antiques after retirement. He accepted everyone he met and truly loved them without reserve. Robert enjoyed his teaching days and greatly loved to read. He loved to be outdoors, especially on the water fishing. He was very good with his hands and could repair and fix anything. He found a love of woodworking and restoring antiques and spent hours a day in his garage tinkering. He also loved to ride his bicycle and could be seen riding for miles around Vancouver Washington, Spanish Fork, and Springville. All through his illness, he kept wanting to ride his bike and go visit his family while riding.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Leona Warner of Spanish Fork, Utah. Also preceding him and greeting him at the gates of heaven with a good practical joke are his two sisters Elaine Ellsworth and Colleen Jamison who were always willing partners in his joking. Robert is survived by his wife and sweetheart of 50 years, Jane Holt Warner of Spanish Fork Utah, his daughter Avery Warner of Kasilof Alaska, and his son and daughter in law Paul and Emily Warner of Sterling Alaska. He also leaves behind much anticipated but not yet arrived grandchildren, although he did have 2 grand-dogs, Riley and Nuka whom he enjoyed very much. He leaves behind his siblings whom he loves very much, his brother Bernell Warner of Perry, Utah and his sisters Gayle Peterson, Shirley Christensen, and Saralee Swenson all of Spanish Fork UT.
The viewing will be held at 9:45am on Friday May 22, 2015. Following the viewing will be the funeral service at 11 a.m., and following that will be the interment at the Orem Cemetery. The address for the church service is 2188 E. 100 S. in Spanish Fork, UT. The funeral services are being handled by Walker Funeral Home in Spanish Fork.
Robert already is and will always be very missed and loved by all who were lucky enough to know him and we are sure he is already smiling and joking with everyone he is meeting in heaven.

My husband and I both had Mr Warner in the 5th grade. We was a fabulous teacher and we all loved him reading stories to us each day. He's one of those unforgettable people that made an impact on many people.

Mr Warner was my 6th grade teacher in Anchorage, Alaska. He was kind enough to allow me to share my collection of horse statues with our class. I had hundreds, so each day I brought another and it sat on my desk. Flash forward to today. In my adult life, I made a business out of painting little horse statues - Montecello Studios. I have now sold over 3500 pieces of my work to 30 countries around the world. To every continent except Antarctica. Even bought a house with them as my sole income. Wish you could have known that you made a difference in my life as a teacher!!
