Scottie Adams Obituary

ADAMS, Scottie Gene Feb. 10, 1929-May 26, 2015 Scottie Adams, 86, a long-time resident of Honey Grove and Denton, Texas passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, May 26, 2015 surrounded by his wife, Mary Adams and family in Honey Grove, Texas. Our beloved father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle is now in Heaven with our Lord. Scottie was loved by many family members and friends, and he was an adventurous man, fiercely independent, and full of life to the end. He will be greatly missed by all. "By grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God." Ephesians 2:8. Scottie Adams was born in Honey Grove, Texas to his parents, Homer Adams and Emma Thompson in 1929. He has a brother, Curtis Adams and had a sister, Margie Adams (deceased), and he attended schools in Honey Grove area until he moved in 1942. He married Dorthea Corbett on June 5, 1947 at the Collins residence in Dallas, Texas. Scottie Adams was married to his first wife and had four wonderful and beautiful children, 3 daughters, and one son. Scottie also had had 4 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He was an uncle to several nieces and nephews, including Becky Green, Curtis Adams, Jr. and Brenda, and great uncle to several nephews and nieces. Scottie Adams was a hard-working entrepreneur beginning at a very young age working in ship yards and building billboard signs, and worked for Trammel Crow Companies. Over the course of his life, he owned and operated multiple businesses, including gas stations, motels, construction companies, and construction supply warehouses. As a businessman, he made significant charitable contributions to the local YMCAs, schools, colleges, including SMU, Elks Clubs, VFW and other local entities. He was instrumental in working on commercial building projects for many schools, government offices and hospitals located throughout the Dallas and North Texas region, and across the State of Texas. He worked on the plaster work projects at Six Flags of Texas and the State Fair of Texas. In 2006, he returned with his wife, Mary Adams to reside in Honey Grove, Texas to spend more time with his brother, Curtis Adams and family. He remained very active in operating his companies, including Adams Supply Company, and his manufacturing and distribution operations for EZWALL Stucco® and Sto® products, and Texas ACA. He was involved in the local Honey Grove business and community with providing financial support for the local VFW, school, and other downtown Honey Grove businesses. Scottie Adams was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Adams and Emma Thompson; his sister, Margie Adams; and his first wife, Dorthea (Corbett) Adams. Funeral services are going to be held on May 29, 2015 at the First Baptist Church located at 410 Hickory Street, Honey Grove, Texas 75446. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and to be followed with memorial services at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Forest Hills Cemetery located next to United Methodist Church, north of Petty in the community of Forest Hills. Take Highway 38 north from Highway 82 [west of Petty] for 3 miles.
