Maurice passed away peacefully at his home in Sequim, Wash., surrounded by his family on June 13, 2015. Maurice was born in Rockford, Ill., in 1921. He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II and arrived in Alaska in 1949. He had a long and distinguished career in aviation as a pilot and business owner, including one of the founders of Northern Air Cargo. He served in the early years of the Alaska Air National Guard as a pilot. He lived most of his life in Alaska and raised six children with his wife, Betty. His family, many friends and people he worked with will miss him. His daughter, Beverly Ray, precedes Maurice in death. He leaves behind five children; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Per Maurice's wish, there will be no memorial service. A private gathering with family will spread his ashes in Alaska at a later date.
