ALLIE JULIENNE SHAPIRO July 19, 1968 – June 27, 2015 Beloved mother, daughter, wife and friend, Allie Julienne Shapiro, age 46, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2015. Also known as Alma Ayala, Allie came from very humble beginnings and cultivated an extreme passion for education that she would pass down to her children. The first from her family to earn a bachelor's degree, she was a current doctoral student at the University of Texas School of Public Health San Antonio Regional Campus working on completing her dissertation that focused on a 5-state policy study of domestic and family violence laws. She served as a legislative fellow, a representative to the Texas Public Health Coalition, and interned with various non-profits contributing to policy development related to health care access and affordability. She was passionate about providing supportive and evidence-based mental health care to children, and served on the Board of Directors for Clarity Child Guidance Center. She also taught a course on child and adolescent health promotion at The University of Texas San Antonio and served as faculty at the University of Texas at Austin. She received her Master of Sciences in Nursing degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the College of Health Science and Human Services at the University of Texas Pan America in 2002 and was a Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She received her Bachelor's of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Texas at Austin in 1991 and her Associate's Degree in Nursing from the University of Texas Pan America in 1989. She is survived by her husband, Eric Lane; children: Charlotte and Brooks Gribble, Jacqueline Spivey and Jackson Beer; parents Ramon and Enriqueta Ayala; grandmothers Esperanza Ayala and Enedina Perez; her brother, Pete Ayala and sister, Janey Wyers, numerous other relatives and many wonderful friends and neighbors. Allie's love for her children was the deepest. If she wasn't educating herself or others around her, she was looking after and loving her four children. She took her children to countless cities in the U.S. as well as Mexico. Along with traveling, she had a passion for fine arts, wine, and the sciences. Her curiosity for the universe inspired her children to always ask questions and think outside the box. She will forever live on through them. On Monday, July 6th, a Graveside Service will be held at 9:00 AM at Resurrection Cemetery at Cordi Marion. Allie was a caring, wonderful person; we will hold her memory in our heart.
