Peter R. Antoniewicz, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2015, in Austin, Texas, after a prolonged battle with cancer. After surviving the war years in Poland, Hungary and Austria, the family escaped Eastern Europe through the help of Catholic Relief and Mr. Dan Nicholas of Salisbury, N.C., in 1949. In 1965, Pete took a faculty position in the University of Texas at Austin's Physics department. He has significantly contributed to scientific research in the area of Physics, including earning a Fulbright Fellowship in 1969. Decades of students have benefited from his quiet dedication to solving their problems and showing them the beauty and fun of his chosen field. He will also be remembered for his love of playing tennis, his work with the local Boy Scouts, volunteer work for Manos de Cristo and his time and dedication as a UIL science coordinator for decades. Pete is survived by the love of his life, Susan, wife of 54 years; and three children: son Andrew of Seattle, Wash., daughter Anna and husband Alphonso of Wimberley, Texas, son Adam and wife Yi of Shanghai, China.
