Donald Ian MacKay
Ventura, CA
Donald Ian MacKay was born July 7, 1931, passed away at home on August 16, 2015 after a short illness.
He was born in Ventura the only child of Ian Finlayson MacKay and Helen Finley MacKay.
Don attended schools in Ventura and graduated in 1949 from Ventura High School. After spending 4 years in the US Air Force, he attended Ventura College. He was in the first class at the new campus. He graduated from Pomona College '58, where he was a proud member of the football team. He graduated from UC Hastings College of Law and spent 54 years practicing law in Ventura, Santa Monica and Orange County. He was a member of the California State Bar and the American Board of Trial Advocates. He never completely retired and was still working part time.
Don was proud to be a native Venturan and was a historian for the city he loved. He also loved the Law, UCLA football, the L.A. Angels and his Scottish heritage. He was a champion of the underdog, a philosopher and a golfer. He was a member of the Saticoy Senior Men's Club, playing with many of his high school and VC classmates.
Don is survived by Arlys, his wife of 59 years, his son, Mike (Ellen) and children, Kate and Ian of Seattle, son, Doug of Ventura and, daughter, Kathy (Rick) Staychock and their child, George, of Chico.
His storytelling, sense of humor and courtroom voice will be missed by all.
A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 noon, Monday, December 21st at Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 196 Ashwood Avenue, Ventura, CA 93003.
