Donald W. Haines, 86
MUNCIE - Donald W. Haines, 86, passed away Monday September 28, 2015 at his residence.
He was the son of Walter E. and Alma Haines. Don was an Army Veteran and served during the Korean Conflict, he was awarded a Bronze star.
He was an active member of Glad Tidings Church most of his life. He retired from Central Indiana Gas Company and co-owned several businesses with his wife, Nila. After retirement he worked at Lowes near his home. His greatest joy was his wife and daughters and their families. Don lived for vacations. His hobbies included camping, fishing, stained glass and volunteering at his church.
Don is survived by his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Nila; daughters include, Debbie Diedrich (David), Terri Haines; foster son, Chad Beckham (Linda); grandsons, M. Ryan Vaughn (Heather), Kris Haines (Mollie); granddaughters, Stephanie Farris, Brooke Vaughn Pierce (Jason), Amanda Beasley (Jason); great-grandchildren, James Shephard, Trey Mathews, Mary Jane Pierce, Caitlyn Beasley, Jacob Beasley and Jack Diedrich; brother, John Haines and sister, Wanda Haines.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold, Paul, Fritz and sister, Jane Thompson.
Services are 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Glad Tidings Church, 3001 South Burlington Dr., Muncie, Indiana. Burial will take place at Elm Ridge Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the church.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Indianapolis VA Hospital and specifically the ALS interdisciplinary team for their wonderful support. They would also like to thank Gentiva Hospice staff, Help at Home and PVA (Paralyzed veterans of American).
