Alexander James "Jim" Roberts
Aug. 26, 1927 ~ Jan. 30, 2016
Resident of Los Gatos
Long-term resident of Milpitas, CA for 53 years.
Alexander James Roberts "Jim" was born to Percy and Naomi Roberts in Gary, Indiana. After a full life, he died peacefully at home surrounded by his dearly beloved wife of 60 ½ years and four loving daughters. He served the Navy with pride and distinction toward the end of World War II and in the Korean War. Subsequent to his graduation from Purdue University with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Jim began working for Lockheed Missiles and Space Company in 1954, and was there for 37 years. Jim was an enthusiastic Chicago Cubs fan throughout his life.
For most of his years at Lockheed, Jim was a faithful blood donor for the Red Cross, and later at the Stanford Blood Bank. When he was unable to donate whole blood, he continued to donate blood products through apheresis in total donating an astonishing 622 times at the Stanford Blood Bank. He donated over 70 gallons of blood and blood products. He was active in Toastmasters for many years, rising to its highest accreditation. He also became active in Sons In Retirement (SIRs).
Jim married his dearly beloved Mary Ann on July 24, 1955, and they shared a life of exceptional devotion. He was the admiring and loving father of four daughters: Mary Lynn Briggs (Carroll), Laura Weber (Paul), Lise Miller (Michael), and Anna Velasco (Jonathan). Jim also claimed as sons Pablo Corral Vega and Luis Beckman, both from Ecuador. He was the patriarch of our large, close-knit family, inclusive of 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. His strong Christian faith was demonstrated by the way he lived his life. Jim influenced many people who will continue to value his example and miss his presence greatly. We are all very thankful and blessed to have had him in our lives.
The life of Alexander James Roberts "Jim" will be celebrated at a memorial service on Saturday, February 13th at 11:00 a.m., to be held at Los Gatos United Methodist Church, 111 Church St. in Los Gatos.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully accepted in Jim's memory by either the Stanford Blood Bank (3373 Hillview Ave., Palo Alto, CA 94304) or a hospice of your choice.
