Donald Lee Wright

Donald Lee Wright, 82, passed peacefully Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, surrounded by family. He was born Dec. 21, 1933, to Merton Wright and Ruth Theresa Frank.
He attended Roosevelt Elementary, Washington Junior High, and graduated from Salinas High School in 1951. After school, Don worked as an accountant for Bud Antle in Salinas and Monterey Bay Packing in Castroville.
He then joined the Army and served in the Korean War. After his service, Don worked diligently for 35 years in the auditing office of Monterey County as an accountant and later was responsible for distributing funds to all the agencies in the county. Later in life, Don reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Karol Klauer Spann, and they married in 1986. They lived happily together for more than 30 years. Don played tennis all through high school and continued playing with the Central Park tennis club for many years. He was also an avid baseball and basketball fan. He enjoyed hiking around the hills on his family ranch. Don loved listening to jazz and held season tickets to the Monterey Jazz Festival since it began in 1958. Don also had a great love for animals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merton and Ruth.
He is survived by his wife, Karol; stepsons, John (Jocelyn) and Dennis (Cynthia) Spann, and six grandchildren.
Private services will be held.

So sorry to read this. Don and I were the best of friends during my 15 years of working at the courthouse in the Auditors Office. I loved his crazy warped sense of humor!! Shared many good days working with him. My thoughts and prayers go out to you Karol. God bless you.
