I first met Burnis when he was a student at the School for International Training's master of arts in teaching languages program. I found him to be kind and sensitive, always ready to engage in conversation whenever we bumped into each other over the years. He was a good teacher, interested in his students, and I was always impressed by his commitment to them. I shall miss our occasional but very enjoyable encounters with him.
