OWEN, Chloe Edwards
Chloe Edwards Owen, beloved wife, mother, Gran, and friend, passed away on August 20, 2016 at the age of 79. Born on January 12, 1937 in Beeville, Texas, the only child of Hazel Lyons Edwards and Stephen Graves Edwards. A passionate horsewoman, she majored in Equestrian Studies at Stephen's College in Columbia, MO., later transferring and graduating from the University of Texas, with a Bachelor of Science in Education/History. She taught in Del Valle where she was also Dean of Women. She empowered her students who fondly remember her as someone who taught them they could be anyone they chose to be.
Chloe met a handsome cowboy in Oak Hill. She married Sonny and they raised two sons on their ranch in Webberville, Texas, later moving to Lexington. The kitchen was Chloe's favorite place in the house and the gathering spot for family and friends. She loved cooking and always had something on the stove for anyone that dropped by. Chloe and Sonny shared their lifelong love of ranching and became members of the Texas Senior Pro Rodeo Association. Chloe began barrel racing later in life and enjoyed the thrill of competition. She and Sonny cherished the friendships and memories they made during their membership in the TSPRA.
Chloe is survived by her husband, Sonny Owen, of Lexington, Texas, her sons, Graves Owen, M.D. of Round Rock and Philip Owen of Austin, grandchildren, Brenton Owen, Stephen Owen, Cash Owen, Ian Thomas, Stella Bolin, and daughter-in-law, Donna Owen. She is preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Lyons Edwards, and father, Stephen Graves Edwards.
The Owen family would like to thank Chloe's family physician, Dr. Steven Yount of Bastrop and the St David's South nursing staff and physicians for their kindness and care during her recent illness. A celebration of Chloe's life will be held at a later date.In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to American Cancer Society.
"Cowgirl is an attitude, really a pioneer spirit, a special American brand of courage. The cowgirl faces life head on, lives by her light and makes no excuses. Cowgirls take stands. They speak up. They defend the things they hold dear. A cowgirl may be a rancher, a barrel racer, a bull rider, an actress or a teacher. She'd rather wear boots than high heels."
Chloe Edwards Owen, a true American cowgirl, will be missed by all who knew her.
