Ron was born October 8, 1945, in Lamar, Colorado. His father was a career US Air Force officer and thus he moved many times during his younger years. Ron received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy in 1963, but a childhood injury prevented him from attending the academy. He attended the University of Maryland in Tokyo, Japan for one year and finished his degree at the University of Texas at Austin in 1968. He was an honor graduate both academically and with Army ROTC. Upon graduation he began a lifelong career in the US Army Military Police where he attained the rank of Colonel. Upon retirement from the Army, Ron embarked on a career in private security in Texas at various organizations culminating in his final assignment with U.S. Security Associates in Austin, TX. He was an active member in Citizens on Patrol (COPS) in Pflugerville, TX. He was also active in his church, First United Methodist of Round Rock, TX. He dedicated his life to helping others and never met anyone that he did not consider a friend.
He is survived by his sons, Ronald Scott Phillips, Katy, TX and Steven Gary Phillips, Pflugerville, TX; his brother, Gary Dennis Phillips, Midland, TX; his grandchildren, Connor Reed Phillips and Kendall Nicole Phillips, Katy, TX; and Victoria Lynn Phillips, Pflugerville, TX; his father-in-law, Lt Col. B.L. Goode, Longview, TX; his sisters-in-law, Glenna G. and Gena G. Goode, Frisco, TX; his nephew, Evan David Bogner, Ft. Smith, AR; his niece, Marcy Simone Bogner, Frisco, TX; his nephew, Cameron Taylor Phillips, Midland, TX, his niece, Lauren Ashley Phillips, New York City, NY; aunt Joye Pearl Walters, Friendswood, TX; cousins Carolyn Sue Patton, Amarillo, TX, Judy Kay Hembree, Friendswood, TX, Carroll Parker, Denver, CO, and Larry Thompson, Kansas City, MO.
He is preceded in death by his bride of 45 years, Gloria Gayle Phillips; and his parents, Lt Col. Herold D. and Myrtle Imogene (Jane) Phillips.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Round Rock, TX at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 30, 2016. A burial service will be held graveside at Memory Park Cemetery, Longview, TX, where he will finally be laid to rest next to his best friend and wife, Gloria Gayle Phillips.I
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Wonders and Worries, Austin, TX, a non-profit dedicated to providing grief counseling for children who have suffered a death in the family, The Wounded Warrior Foundation or The American Cancer Association in honor of his wife Gloria Gayle Phillips.
