Jose DeJesus Martinez (Jesse). Today another of God's children has received his wings. Jesse has gone from us to be with his Lord in Heaven. He was born on April 9, 1949 in Kingsburg and went to the Lord on January 15, 2017. He went to elementary school at Sequoia Union then on to high school at Exeter Union High School and graduated in 1968. He grew up in the community of Lindcove with his siblings. Jesse joined the Army directly after graduating, where he received his training in engineering. After two weeks he was shipped off to Viet Nam. In his tour there Jesse was injured severely that he was brought back to the states. For his service, Jesse was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star of which we were all very proud of the honors bestowed upon him.
Once he departed from the Army he was married to Sally Pena for a brief time before her illness took her from us. His other loves were his 68 Road Runner and his Harley Davidson Motorcycle of which none of his siblings were allowed to ride. Jessed was blessed with one son, Jesse Jr.
He is preceded in death by his father Jesus and his mother Carmen, siblings Maria, Amalia, Margarita, Manuela, Miguel, Gregorio, Gloria, Senorina, Johnny, Carmelo and nephews and nieces. Survivors include his step mother Rafaela Martinez, siblings Lupe Hernandez, Toni Mata (Lucio), Jose (Armida), Richard (Shirley), Manuel (Margaret), Rosa, Julian (Pilar). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jesse you will be truly missed but never forgotten.

I'll always remember you in your big white van...being a kid wondering how on earth is my tio Jesse driving a van in his chair? Nothing seemed impossible to you. I admired how caring you were and how worried you were for my mom even with all of your own health issues. I knew you would be a daily visitor at the hospital when she was there. No excuses ever you found out the bus schedule and you were there even if it was just for 10 minutes to get an update. We love you and miss you dearly tio. Rest peacefully and freely.
