Donald H. Beavers, 92, of Pomona Park, Fla., and Madison Twp., died Wednesday at VA Medical Center, Plains Twp. His wife, Josephine "Pudgie" Batzel Beavers, died March 4, 2003.
Born in Madisonville, he was the son of the late George and Lulu Sisco Beavers. Growing up, Donald worked on a farm and after schooling, and served in the Army during World War II, where he earned a Purple Heart. He then drove a truck and, before retiring in 1986, was a plant supervisor at Wayne Crushed Stone.
Donald was a charter member of John J. Michaels Memorial VFW Post 5207, Daleville, and also a member of the VFW Post 3349 in Palatka, Fla. He was a founding member and fire police officer of Madisonville Independent Fire Department.
He enjoyed boating and casting a line waiting for his next big catch. He was a tinkerer and putter, working on lawn mowers for anyone who was in need of a new-to-them mower or a simple, quick repair. Recently on Friday evenings, he looked forward to going to Pappy's in Spring Brook for a good seafood fra diavolo. Most importantly, Donald loved being with his family.
Surviving are his daughter, Donna Mae Van Brunt and her husband, George, Madison Twp.; sister, Thelma Beavers Small and her husband, James, Florida; grandchildren, Kimberly Van Brunt Lutz and her husband, Rick; George P. Van Brunt Jr. and his wife, Cindy; and Lenay Van Brunt Lougee and her husband, Rob; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Lucia Lutz; Courtland P. Van Brunt and fiancée, Vanessa; Scott, Riley and Cayden Lougee; and Joshua Brostoski; step-grandchildren, Lucinda Schaefer and fiancé, Brien; and Bryan Schaefer; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Trevor, Landon and Isabella.
He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Gerald, Arnold, Harold G., Mary E. Beavers White, Lloyd P., Morgan and Arlene Beavers Roney.
