Miles Milkovich, 99, of Glassport, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017. He was born Dec. 31, 1917, in McKeesport, and was the son of the late Mile and Smilja Lalich Milkovich. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth D. "Betty" (Babyak) Milkovich, who died Oct. 28, 2011. Miles was a member of St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, McKeesport, and its Men's Club. He was also a member of National Tube's Foreman's Club and the Glassport American Legion Post 443, where he was recently honored as the oldest member. Miles was a Captain in the Army, serving in World War II from June 4, 1941, to Dec. 30, 1945. He was wounded in Birgel, Germany, on Dec. 15, 1944. For his service, he received the Purple Heart, EAME Campaign Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, American Defense Ribbon, America Theatre Ribbon and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He was a retired foreman at the former US Steel National Tube Works. Miles loved to hunt and fish in Benezette, Elk County. He is survived by his son, Brian (Gail) Milkovich, of Michigan; daughters, Michele Amore, of Glassport, and Kim (Joseph) Pomykala, of Aurora, Ohio; grandchildren, Ryan (Tanya) and Shawn (Tiffany) Finneran, Allison (Chris) Milkovich and Kadon (Holly) Milkovich, Lauren and Lindsay Pomykala and Ashley (Chris) Barwick; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Miles and Alina; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Milkovich; nieces, nephews and special caregiver, Karen Diggins. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Milkovich; son-in-law, Donald Amore; brothers, Pete and Steve Milkovich and Sam and Dan Vignovich; and sister, Sarah Vidnovic. The family wishes a special thank you to Three Rivers Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
Friends are welcome from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, at the GILBERT FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak, 412-672-6322, Troy J. Gilbert, director. Pomen service will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, in the funeral home chapel followed by funeral service at 10 a.m. in St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church with the Very Rev. Stevan Rocknage, officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Jefferson Memorial Park, Pleasant Hills.
