Eugene Carson
Battle Creek
Eugene Carson, age 62, of Battle Creek, died Wednesday at Borgess Medical Center. Eugene was born February 8, 1955 in Battle Creek, to Otis and Beatrice (Williams) Carson and has been a lifelong resident of Battle Creek. Eugene was a 1973 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School and joined the US Army upon graduation. In 1975 he married his high school sweetheart, the former Annabell Cantrell. After his service in the Army, Eugene returned to Battle Creek and received his Associates Degree from Kellogg Community College and also attended Western Michigan University. Eugene was employed by the Kellogg Co. until his retirement in 1999 due to ill health after 21 years of service. He also owned and operated Carson's Beauty Supplies & More, as well as operating a vending machine service. Eugene was active in Scouting as a child, and was a lifelong member of the First Salem Missionary Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. Eugene was the founder of the Inner City Rocket Football League, remained very active in the athletic and scholarly activities of his children, and was a member of several boards at the Battle Creek Enquirer. Eugene had been an active Foster Parent for many years and in recognition of his many contributions to the community of Battle Creek, Eugene was given a George Award in September of 1994.
Eugene is survived by his sons, Eugene (Thia) Carson of Kalamazoo, Dr. James Carson MD, MPH of Washington, DC, Jonathan Carson of East Lansing; his mother, Beatrice Carson of Battle Creek; his former wife, Annabell Carson of Battle Creek; a sister, Diane Lane of Battle Creek; brothers, Donald Carson of Kalamazoo, David (Debbie) Carson of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Arryanna, Xzavion, Jatavion, KaMyrah, Summer, Amarion, Marquisha, and Isheia; and the numerous foster children and family members that he cared for. Eugene is preceded in death by his Otis Carson Sr., brothers, Otis Carson Jr, and Randy Carson.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm Wednesday, March 15 at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, 223 N. Bedford Rd. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, March 16 at the First Salem Baptist Church, 370 Capital Ave. SW. Donations may be given to the Eugene Carson Memorial Scholarship Fund. We thank GOD for the life of this precious man here on earth and praise GOD for the eternal life CHRIST died for us to have. Love and comfort comes from the LORD. Be encouraged knowing GOD will not leave us alone.

I am so saddened to hear the passing of Eugene. I remembered Eugene from high school. I also remember him coming in the Utility Billing Office with that smile on his face; handling his business, and I had the pleasure to wait on him; before & after his accident. Eugene had a lot of STRENGTH & I admired him for that! What a shocker! *May he RIP
