Black Mountain - Anthony John Godzinski, age 93, passed away on April 25, 2017 at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Black Mountain, NC. John was born in Homestead, PA on May 16, 1923. He proudly served in WWII in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater aboard the NTS Newport, USS Princeton, USS Langley, USS Bataan and the USS Amsterdam. He attended Arsenal High School in Pittsburg, PA and the University of Tennessee studying engineering. John retired from Sirrine Engineering Company in Greenville, SC.
John is preceded in death by his sister, Laura Shonsky; brother, Theodore Godwinski and their parents, Anthony and Leokaydya Rykaczewski Godzinski.
John is survived by his wife, Margaret Morris Godzinski of Asheville, NC; two daughters and their husbands, Carol (Tony) Jackson of Travelers Rest, SC and Marsha (Jim) Hargreaves of Savannah, GA; grandsons, Andy Randall and Robert Nichols.
Services will be held with military honors at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery Chapel on Monday May 1, 2017 at 12:00 noon. Officiating will be Chaplin Jack Taylor of the North Carolina State Veterans Home. Interment will follow the service.
