Sam was born in Tarrant City, Alabama to the late Samuel Mae Hazelrig Sr. and Mary Morrow Hewitt Hazelrig. He departed this life at his daughter's residence in Athens, Alabama. He was a graduate of Gadsden High School and then went on to graduate with a Bachelor's from Auburn University and a Master's from Alabama A & M.. He was a Jet Fighter Pilot in the United States Air Force. He retired as an Aerospace Engineer from NASA and was Co-founder of Madison Research Corporation in Huntsville, AL. He was preceded in death by four siblings and two children; Karen Cove Hazelrig Lacy and Samuel Mae Hazelrig lll. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife; Julia Ann McIntyre Hazelrig, one Brother, Dr. Cooper Greene (Jane) Hazelrig, four children: Kristi (Dave) Smith, April Kelli Hazelrig Dysart, Kerri Michele Hazelrig, Darrel Caine Hazelrig, 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held in the Educational Training Facility at the US Space and Rocket Center on Sunday, August 20th 2017 at 3:00 pm.
