PETERSON, Tom L. Tom Loomis Peterson, son of Martin and Wilma, passed away suddenly, Sept. 12, at the age of 85 years. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, Tom attended Phillips Exeter Academy before enrolling at Harvard University. He remained an enthusiastic alumni of both these institutions throughout his life. After graduating from Harvard Law School in 1960, Tom moved to the State of Hawaii, starting his career at the law firm of Carlsmith, Wickman and Case and later serving as the state's Deputy Attorney General for Regulatory Affairs. In 1967, he relocated to Lexington, Massachusetts, where he lived for nearly 50 years. He joined the firm of Ely, Bartlett, Brown and Proctor and later worked for TRW inc. and Wyman Gordon Co. Upon retiring, he started his own practice as corporate counsel, while also working for the American Arbitration Association. Tom had a keen interest in language and writing and thoroughly enjoyed interacting with his community. He was an ESL instructor for the Lexington Adult Education program, a volunteer for Reading for the Blind, and a committed participant in Spanish language classes, the First Parish Men's Group and the Concord Investment Club. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Arlayne Hedderly-Smith, sons Eric and Mark and daughter Anne. He will be remembered fondly by his grandchildren, Jennifer, Ben, Jameson, Field, Oona and Olive. A celebration of his life will be held at the First Parish Church in Lexington on November 4th at 11am. Memorial donations in memory of Tom can be made to the Experiment in International Living (www.experiment.org).
